Roland Cheng

Roland began his career in Brunei with AIA and HSBC Brunei, before continuing with HSBC Australia. He progressed through senior roles, including helping lead one of HSBC’s flagship branches and later taking on a key role in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Throughout his banking career, Roland worked closely with individuals, families and business owners, helping them navigate important financial decisions and both straightforward and complex lending needs. This experience gave him a strong foundation in lending, credit and relationship banking, while reinforcing something he continues to value today:

Roland founded Better Day Financial to offer a more personal approach to finance. One built around understanding each client’s circumstances, what matters to them and what they want to achieve, before looking at the right way forward.

The name Better Day carries a deeply personal meaning. During one of the most challenging periods of Roland’s life, his mother would often tell him:

“Tomorrow will be a better day.”

Those words stayed with him and ultimately became the inspiration behind Better Day Financial. They represent resilience, optimism and the belief that no matter where you are today, there is always an opportunity to move towards something better.

Today, Roland specialises in residential and complex lending, drawing on his banking and credit experience to see the bigger picture, navigate complexity and structure lending around each client’s individual circumstances.

For Roland, a successful outcome is not just an approval or a settlement. It is knowing that a client has made an important financial decision with clarity and confidence, and that when the next decision comes, they know who to call.

Away from finance, Roland is a passionate golfer and enjoys spending his downtime on the golf course or with Bobby, his much loved Cavoodle.
